高台寺竹林

豊臣秀吉を弔うために正室の北政所（ねね）が建立した高台寺は、戒律が厳しいと言われる禅寺でありながら華麗な高台寺蒔絵を施された霊屋内陣をはじめ池に架かる臥龍廊の曲線そして茶室や庭にも、どこか柔らかな優しさを感じる寺です。

 井堂雅夫は、一時期この高台寺から徒歩2，3分の古い民家を借りてアトリエにしていたことがあり、季節の移ろいを追いかけるように度々ここを訪れ、いくつもの作品が生まれました。

 早春の竹林の道に鮮やかな紅色の椿が映えます。作品に描かれた鋭く射し込む木漏れ日の光と陰が、観る者にキリリと冷たい空気を感じさせるようです。

Kodaiji-Chikurin

（Bamboo grove at  Kodaiji Temple）

Kodaiji Temple was built by Hideyoshi Toyotomi's wife, Nene (Kitanomandokoro), to mourn his death. Although it is a Zen temple with strict Zen Buddhist precepts, there is a sense of softness and tenderness in the interior of the mausoleum, which is decorated with gorgeous Kodaiji maki-e, in the curves of the Garyu-ro (lying hallway) over the pond, in the tea room, and in the garden.

Masao Ido once rented an old private house a few minutes' walk from Kodaiji Temple and used it as his studio, and he often visited here to follow the changing seasons, resulting in a number of works.

In early spring, bright red camellias stand out on a path through a bamboo grove. The light and shade of the sharply shining sunlight through the trees in the work seems to give the viewer a crisp, cool air.
