記録に残る資料によれば、創建は1100年以前とされる奈良・長谷寺の奥院、瀧蔵神社の権現桜。権現とは仏が形を変えて姿を現したものとされるが、樹齢400年のこの一本桜からは確かにそう思わせる力強い命の鼓動を感じます。
岩手のアトリエ近くの神社に伝わる神楽を、地域の氏子のひとりとして応援していた井堂雅夫は、この瀧蔵神社を訪れた時のことを、「日本各地の神社にはその地域のお祝いの舞として権現舞が伝承されているが、この権現桜はその舞の姿を思わせる。幹は堂々と大地に大きな根を張り、まるで神が生きるエネルギーと命の尊さを桜の魂を通して私に伝えてくれているようだ」と書き残しています。

“Gongenzakura”
According to records, the Gongen Sakura
of Takikura Shrine, the inner sanctuary of Hasedera in Nara, is said to have
been established before 1100.
Gongen is considered a form in which a
Buddha manifests itself, and from this 400-year-old single cherry tree, one can
certainly feel the strong, pulsating life that makes one think so.
Masao Ido, who supported the kagura transmitted at a shrine near his atelier in Iwate as one of the local parishioners, wrote about his visit to this Takikura Shrine: "In shrines across Japan, Gongen dances have been handed down as celebratory dances of the region, but this Gongen Sakura evokes the image of such dances. Its trunk stands proudly with large roots spread into the earth, as if conveying to me through the soul of the cherry tree the energy of life and the preciousness of life that the gods live by."
