古都悠久・彩
光悦寺は洛中からは少し離れた山あいに位置し、訪れる人も比較的少ないため紅葉の風情をゆっくり楽しむ事ができる寺です。
江戸時代の初め、市内の刀剣工匠一家の長男であった光悦は、一族一門と共にこの地に移り住みやがて一帯はものづくりの人々の集まる光悦村と呼ばれるようになり、貴族や武家の文化とは一線を画す自由で先進的な作風は琳派と呼ばれ町衆の絶大な支持によって器・きもの・インテリアなど衣食住にわたりその意匠が広まりました。その光悦の草庵が光悦寺となりました。
井堂雅夫は、そんな才能あふれる光悦が、彼に惹かれて集まる多くの人たちの力を借りながら、ひとりでは到底出来ない質･量の作品を生み出していった制作姿勢に共鳴し、自身の作品が染色や木版画を始め陶磁器や緞帳、本の装丁などさまざまな意匠に生かされ、新しい分野に広がっていくことを目指しました。
紅葉に燃える光悦寺は井堂雅夫にその初心を思い出させてくれる大切な場所でもありました。
“Koto yukyu・Aya”
Koetsu-ji Temple is located in the
mountains, a short distance from the center of Kyoto, and is relatively
sparsely visited, allowing visitors to enjoy the autumn foliage at their
leisure.
In the early Edo period (1603-1868), Koetsu, the eldest son of a family of swordsmiths in the city, moved to this area with his family, and the area came to be called Koetsu-mura, a place where craftsmen gathered. The Rimpa school was a style that was free, progressive, and distinct from the aristocratic and samurai cultures. Koetsu's hermitage became Koetsuji Temple.
Masao Ido was fascinated by Koetsu's attitude of producing works of a quality and quantity that he could not have achieved alone, with the help of many people who were attracted to his work. He aimed to expand his work into new fields.
Koetsuji Temple, ablaze with autumn leaves, was an important place for Masao Ido to recall his original intentions.
