太平洋に向けて大きな夕陽が沈んでいく。

こんな夕陽を見ていると、いつも思う。

この海の向こうにはどんなものがあり、どんなことが起こっているのだろうと。

ここは京都府の天橋立、広島県の厳島神社とならぶ日本三景、宮城県松島町。

湾内には大小260もの島々が浮かび、松尾芭蕉の奥の細道にも詠まれた美しい風景が拡がる。

 東日本大震災から十年。この風景も少なからず傷つき、多くの命が失われた。未曾有の災害は多くの日本人に明日も今日と同じでは無いかもしれないという、当たり前だが忘れていた大切な事を私たちに気づかせてくれた。

 大切な人と二度と無い今を一生懸命生きるのだ、と胸に置いた手のひらに伝わる心音を聞く。

“Matsushima”

The evening sun sets facing the Pacific Ocean.

Whenever I see a sunset like this, I always wonder.

Wondering what lies beyond the sea, and also what kind of things are happening over there.

Here I am in Matsushima Town in Miyagi Prefecture, well-known as one of Japan’s Three Most Scenic Places, together with Amanohashidate in Kyoto Prefecture and Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture.

There are 260 islands, large and small, around the bay, creating a beautiful scenery as described “in the Narrow Road to the Deep North -Oku no Hosomichi-”, written by Matsuo Basho.

 Ten years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. This beautiful landscape has been considerably damaged and many lives have been lost. This unprecedented disaster has made many Japanese realize an important thing that may be forgotten, something we sometimes take for granted, and that tomorrow may not be same as today.

 I listened to the sound of my heart beating when I put my hand palm on my chest, telling me to live to the fullest in the present moment with those dear to me.
