“Rain Garden II”
During this season, with flourishing fresh green foliage, we are finally free to travel domestically, and our hearts are liberated. The number of travellers walking in front of the gallery, mingling with students on school trips from Kinkakuji Temple to Ryoanji Temple, is gradually increasing. While the three years under COVID, which allowed me to slowly converse with my universe in front of the quiet stone garden, was valuable time, I would never want to return to it.
Masao Ido had the following to say about the stone garden:
[When you look at Western gardens, most of them are symmetrical: Several paths radiate from the central fountain, or the gardens lining either side of the road leading straight to the Palace of Versailles, are planted in perfect symmetry, without exception. In contrast, Oriental gardens, whether Kaiyushiki (strolling landscape) gardens or Karesansui (dry landscape gardens) are asymmetrical. The Western notion is perfection, whereas the Oriental concept is imperfection. Beyond perfection, there is nothing more, but beyond imperfection, there are immeasurable possibilities. One can look beyond each universe by looking at the stone garden].
The stone garden is a place where you can discover a different self every visit, whether among the cherry blossoms, green leaves, or the rain.
