ギャラリー雅堂だより 2025年12月 「嵐山雪花」

 

嵐山雪花

紅葉で賑わった嵐山も12月に入るとずいぶん静かになり、地元に住む人も渡月橋からの眺めをゆっくりと楽しみながら散歩が出来るようになります。

近年は本格的な冬の寒さとなっても雪景色を見られることも少なくなりましたが、

珍しく雪の積もったある日、井堂雅夫はその風景を取材に出かけました。下流の松尾橋に車を置き、藤原堤を遡って描いたスケッチブックには何枚もの素描に桂川の流れとだんだん大きくなる渡月橋が描かれていました。この何枚かの素描のうち、どの大きさの渡月橋が作品になるのか興味深く思っていましたが、井堂雅夫が選んだのは岩田山や小倉山、愛宕山に守られるように囲まれて桂川に架かる小さな渡月橋でした。いつもの「IDOグリーン」を使わず、画面全体がコバルトブルーの濃淡で表現された雪景色からは寒さや冷たさではなく、いつもと変わらない井堂雅夫の温かさくやさしい眼差しが伝わって来ます。

“Ranzan sekka”

In recent years, even when winter brings its full, bitter cold, snowy landscapes have become increasingly rare. On one such unusual day when snow had piled up, Masao Ido ventured out to sketch the scene.

He left his car at Matsuo Bridge downstream and made his way upstream along the Fujiwara embankment. In his sketchbook were many drawings, depicting the flow of the Katsura River and Togetsukyo Bridge growing gradually larger.

I wondered with interest which version of Togetsukyo Bridge among these sketches would become the final work, but the one Ito chose was the small Togetsukyo Bridge spanning the Katsura River, nestled as if protected by Mount Iwata, Mount Ogura, and Mount Atago.

Instead of using his usual “Ido green,” the entire scene is rendered in varying shades of cobalt blue. Yet, rather than conveying cold or chill, the snowy landscape expresses Masao Ido’s familiar warmth and gentle gaze.
