青雲富士・暁雲富士

「富士山」、それは日本人にとって唯一無二の特別な山。実際の富士山を見たことがなくても、他の山とはまったく別の思いを抱かせる不思議な存在です。

 富士山が視界いっぱいに大きく見える所へ旅をしたいと言う夢が叶い、昨年秋に河口湖を訪れました。同じ宿に連泊をして、ススキが揺れる川沿いの遊歩道を下流から上流へそしてまた下流へと歩いたり、あるいはハーブ畑を見下ろすデッキで、そして小高い丘の芝生に寝転んでと、町中を縦横に歩き周り「富士山のある風景」を堪能しました。ふと振り向いた瞬間に思いがけず巨大な富士山が目の前に現れ、その度にびっくりしたことは、日々未知の体験に出会いワクワクしていた子供のころに返ったような新鮮な体験でした。

 井堂雅夫の描いた富士山の中には写実的で抒情的な作品や、また反対に直感的でダイナミックに描いた富士山があります。その中から今月は同時平行で制作した二作です。まさに新年に相応しくエネルギッシュで吉兆を予感させてくれる作品です。

“Seiun Fuji・Gyoun Fuji ”

Mount Fuji—for the Japanese, it is a mountain unlike any other. Even without having seen it in person, it holds a mysterious presence that evokes feelings entirely distinct from any other mountain.

My dream of traveling to a place where Mount Fuji fills the entire view came true last autumn when I visited Lake Kawaguchi. Staying at the same inn for consecutive nights, I walked along the riverside promenade lined with swaying pampas grass, going downstream then upstream and back again. I sat on the deck overlooking the herb fields, lay down on the grassy hill, and crisscrossed the town, fully savoring "scenes with Mount Fuji." Each time I turned around unexpectedly and a massive Mount Fuji appeared before me, the surprise felt like a fresh experience, transporting me back to childhood days filled with excitement over daily encounters with the unknown.

Among Masao Idō's depictions of Mount Fuji are both realistic, lyrical works and, conversely, intuitive, dynamically rendered ones. This month features two pieces created simultaneously. They are truly fitting for the New Year—energetic works that seem to herald auspicious omens.
